Haus Empte is located in the Dülmen district of Kirchspiel in the farming community of Empte between the Welter Bach and the Karthäuser Mühlenbach. It is surrounded by the Karthäuser Mühlenbach nature reserve and is a listed building.
The first inhabitants of the House of Emte were a knightly family of the same name. In analogy to the Lords of Merfeld, the family had an oblique grille in its coat of arms. 1226 Thiderik von Emete is the first bearer of the name. He was also in possession of a castle fief at Haus Dülmen. The last bearer of the name was Johan von Emete in 1450. His heiress Olderadis brought the property with him into his marriage to Dietherich von Hamern zu Billerbeck.
