Settlement Pottgießerhof

The settlement Pottgießerhof is a late residential development established in the mid-1930s by Krupp in the western part of the Essen district of Frohnhausen. It is now part of the Route of Industrial Heritage.
The name Pottgießerhof traces back to one of four courtyards of the former settlement of Overrath. This Pottgießerhof was first mentioned in 1220 in the bailiff's role of the Count of Isenberg. It was under the jurisdiction of the Oberhof Ehrenzell. Behandigung means that the tenant possesses a hereditary right of use, which he could also have shared with his wife. The Pottgießerhof, formerly also called Jungenhof, was sold in 1562 by the Essen citizen Conrad Wiederbach for 625 Thalers without the right of use to the Pottgießer family. In 1668, Dietherich Pottgießer was mentioned as the tenant of the approximately 33 Morgen large farm. In 1826, Eberhard Pottgießer was the owner. In 1830, the farm was about 67 Morgen in size when the encumbrances on the farm were discharged. In 1834, the farmer Wilhelm Pottgieser discharged the fiscal burdens resting on the farm, becoming the unrestricted owner. From 1871 onwards, the farm was operated due to marriage by Hermann Becker from Bedingrade until 1937. In that year, Hermann Becker sold the farm to Friedrich Krupp AG due to the planning of the residential settlement, which subsequently demolished it. The homestead had been located on the grounds of the former club house Eigene Scholle, directly east of the current parking lot of the Helmut-Rahn sports facility.
