The Königsforst is a forest area of 2,519 hectares located east of Cologne. It is part of the Bergische Heideterrasse. The forest is a bird protection and FFH area. Parts of the forest belong to the nature reserve Königsforst and the nature reserve Königsforst.
The 25 square kilometer forest area touches the territories of the cities of Cologne, Bergisch Gladbach, and Rösrath. To the north, it is bordered by the A 4 Cologne – Olpe motorway. To the southwest, the A 3 Cologne – Frankfurt and the Aggertalbahn cut through the area. An identically named motorway exit provides access to Königsforst via the A 3 motorway. The terminus Königsforst of the city rail line 9 is located immediately at the edge of the forest. To the south, the Wahner Heide nature reserve adjoins it.
