The Brachter Forest is a nature reserve in North Rhine-Westphalia, northwest of Brüggen. It is part of the protected area designated under Directive 92/43/EEC with the area number DE4702302, which serves to preserve several habitat types and species. Together with the nature reserve and the FFH area of forests and heath near Brüggen-Bracht, the area is also part of the EU bird protection area Schwalm-Nette-Platte with Grenzwald and Meinweg, identified by the number DE4603401. The protected area, which covers 1328 hectares, was placed under nature protection in 2000. The proposal for the designation of a communal significance protected area in October 2000 was followed by the recognition as a Natura 2000 area in December 2004.
