Berlinchen is a district of the town of Wittstock/Dosse in the Brandenburg district of Ostprignitz-Ruppin. Until October 25, 2003, the place formed its own municipality. Berlinchen lies in the northeast of the municipality of Wittstock/Dosse, about 5 km south of the state border to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Immediately west of the village extends the Berlinchener See.
Today, Berlinchen has about 250 inhabitants. The village has a church and four streets. The first documented mention dates back to 1274 as minoris Berlin. In 1431 it was mentioned as lutteken berlyn and in 1574 as Berlinichen. The addition minoris or lutteken, both meaning small and later replaced by the diminutive suffix -chen, was necessary because there was a neighboring place called Groß Berlin. This no longer exists today. The name of the place, like that of Berlin, comes from Slavic. It indicates a swampy and marshy area. In April 1945, a battle took place in Berlinchen between the troops of the Wehrmacht and those of the Red Army.
