The Plötzensee Memorial commemorates the victims of National Socialism in the Berlin-Plötzensee correctional facility. It is located on the outskirts of the current Plötzensee prison in the Berlin area of Plötzensee in the district of Charlottenburg-Nord and was inaugurated in 1952 by the Land Berlin.
The Plötzensee prison was built from 1868 to 1879 on land belonging to the estate district of Plötzensee, which was owned by the royal forestry fund. With the formation of the municipality of Greater Berlin in 1920, the area was assigned to the then Berlin district of Charlottenburg.
