The brickworks in Oranienburg was a large brick factory for the production of bricks and an external camp of the Sachsenhausen concentration camp.
The establishment of the plant was based on an agreement between the general building inspector for the Reich capital, Albert Speer, and the SS administration office from July 1938. The goal was to provide the significant amounts of building materials that Speer's plans for the transformation of Berlin into the world capital Germania would have required.
In addition to the brick factory, a separate harbor was established at the Lehnitz lock and – at Speer's request – also a natural stone factory. The labor slaves for the construction were supplied by the Sachsenhausen concentration camp. The operation of the large brick factory was taken over by the SS-owned German Earth and Stone Works.
