With about 150 inhabitants, Gruhno has been a district of the Brandenburg municipality of Schönborn in the Elbe-Elster district since 27 September 1998. It lies 6 km southwest of the town of Doberlug-Kirchhain in the Lower Lusatian Heathland Nature Park and has a municipal area of 5.2 km².
Gruhno was probably founded between 1200 and 1231, the year of the first documentary mention of the village, in the course of the high medieval expansion of the country as a new foundation of the Dobrilugk monastery. in 1541, Elector John Frederick of Saxony had the monastery, which belonged to Bohemia, occupied. With secularization, the village came under noble rule. In the second half of the 16th century, an estate called the knight's residence was built in Gruhno, which later existed as a royal outhouse. Its dissolution and the demolition of the buildings took place in 1823.
