The Hubertusstock hunting lodge was the official hunting residence of the German head of state during the time of the German Empire and the Weimar Republic. Due to its representative functions, the term Hubertusstock hunting lodge became commonplace. In the GDR, in the time of Erich Honecker, he had a similar function.
The hunting lodge, located on Lake Werbellinsee on the banks of the Schorfheide, a landscape in the state of Brandenburg, was built from 1847 to 1849 on behalf of the King of Prussia Frederick William IV in the Bavarian or Swiss style in honour of his wife, a daughter of King Maximilian I of Bavaria. The simple building, which was called the hunting lodge because of its royal owners and the large hunting grounds, served as accommodation for the court's hunting parties. During the residents' absence, the estate was managed by court officials, servants, and craftsmen. Interested visitors could visit the building for an entrance fee of 25 pfennigs.
