Bundeswehr Transformation Center

The Center for the Transformation of the Bundeswehr was an office and think tank of the Federal Ministry of Defense, responsible for planning the transformation of the Bundeswehr. As part of the reorganisation of the Bundeswehr, the centre was dissolved on 30 September 2012. On 1 October 2012, the Bundeswehr Planning Office in Berlin-Niederschöneweide was reorganised, headed by a major general or a rear admiral. The first head of the office was Frank Leidenberger.
In 1958, it turned out that the Armed Forces General Staff was overburdened with preparations for major NATO exercises. As a result, this task was outsourced to the so-called "Lehrstab A"; this is how the Bundeswehr Transformation Center was born. Shortly thereafter, it was renamed "Teaching Staff for NATO Exercises". The main task was derived from this name: the preparation and support of NATO staff exercises. With the broadening of the range of tasks, the "Office for Studies and Exercises of the Bundeswehr" was founded in 1975. From then on, the tasks also included the preparation of staff studies as a decision support for the Federal Ministry of Defence and collaboration on operational research studies. In 2002, the office was renamed the "Centre" and in 2004 finally the "Centre for the Transformation of the Bundeswehr". In 2006, the company moved from Waldbröl to Strausberg near Berlin in order to remain close to the political and military decision-makers in the new federal capital.
