The Strausberg airfield is located in Brandenburg about 2 km east of the town of Strausberg and has a 1200-meter concrete runway as well as a 1200-meter grass runway, which is mainly used for gliding. The airfield is approved for a maximum takeoff weight of 8000 kg and exclusively for visual flights both day and night.
The airfield was founded in 1927 as a gliding site. From 1935, the Luftwaffe used the site as a flying training and training establishment in Strausberg and systematically expanded it starting in 1936. Among other things, a large hangar, three aircraft hangars, a navigation school, and the air traffic control building were constructed. The official inauguration as an air base took place on November 1, 1939. In addition to a flight school, various air force units were based at the airfield until the end of the war. On April 23, 1945, the airfield was occupied by units of the Red Army and continued to be used as a deployment base for various fighter and bomber units until the end of the war.
