The Garzau Pyramid is the largest field stone pyramid in Germany. It is located in Garzau, a district of the municipality of Garzau-Garzin in the Märkisch-Oderland district of Brandenburg.
The pyramid is part of a complex that includes Garzau Palace and the associated landscape park. Friedrich Wilhelm Carl Count von Schmettau established the park starting in 1779; the pyramid was built in 1784 and could originally have served as a mausoleum for the count. However, he sold the estate in 1802. In 1911, the predecessor building of the palace, the Garzau manor house, burned down. While the palace was being rebuilt, the pyramid fell into disrepair. Due to its appearance, the structure was referred to in the village as the "Knight's Castle." It was rediscovered only in 1999. A year later, the Friends of the Pyramid and Castle Park Garzau e.V. was founded, uncovered the structure, and largely rebuilt it from their own funds between 2000 and 2010. Today, the interior is largely in its original condition.
