Rosendorfer Canal

The Rosendorfer Canal is an artificially created navigable waterway in the southern Brandenburg district of Oberspreewald-Lausitz. The canal is located near Lieske, a district of the Altdöbern office. It connects two lakes formed from former lignite open-pit mines in the Lusatian Lake District, the Partwitzer See and the Sedlitzer See. The 440-meter-long canal runs from the northern shore of the Partwitzer to the southeastern shore of the Sedlitzer See. The name of the canal recalls the village of Rosendorf, which was devastated by the Sedlitz open-pit mine in 1972 and belonged to the municipality of Sorno. The former Sedlitz open-pit mine is currently being flooded, resulting in the creation of the Sedlitzer See.
The channel width of the canal is four meters, and the water capacity is five cubic meters per second. It was inaugurated on January 5, 2006.
