The bunker Kolkwitz near Cottbus was built around the same time as the bunker Cölpin near Neubrandenburg in the mid-1960s. It can be assumed that significant insights from the construction of the first bunker built in the GDR, Kagel, were incorporated into the planning. Both bunkers are identical in structure, function, and purpose. They served as command posts for the air forces/air defense of the GDR. The dimensions of the bunkers were 42.5 × 18 m, and they consisted of three underground floors.
Its location is approximately 12 kilometers west of Cottbus in the municipality of Kolkwitz, on the outskirts of the industrial area "Am Technologiepark." Access is via the A 15 to the Cottbus West interchange or via the B 115 Vetschau–Cottbus.
