Cottbus Park Railway

The railway was opened on 1 June 1954 as the Cottbus Pioneer Railway. At the start, the route length was 1.1 km from Freundschaft station to Tierpark station. Four years later, another kilometre of line was added to Friedenseiche station. The first major renovation took place at the start of the construction of the Federal Garden Show in 1995. New tracks, bridges and the railway and depot "Sandower Dreieck" were built. In the spring of 2011, the more than 40-year-old tracks at Zoo station were renewed at a cost of 42,000 euros.
At Zoo station, there is direct access to Fürst-Pückler-Park Branitz, and Messe station is right next to Energie Cottbus' Stadium of Friendship. In its more than 50 years of operation, the railway transported more than five million passengers. The operator of the park railway is on the one hand the Association for the Promotion of the Cottbus Park Railway e.V., which has about 84 members, including about 35 children and young people. Until the end of March 2011, Congress, Messe und Touristik Cottbus was also the operator of the Parkbahn, and since 1 April 2011 it has been Cottbusverkehr GmbH.
