Altchemnitz is a district in the south of Chemnitz. The district was incorporated on October 1, 1894.
At the very southernmost point of this district, the Zwönitz and Würschnitz rivers flow together into the Chemnitz River at the height of Harthauer Straße. At this point, a bridge connects the adjacent districts of Altchemnitz and Harthau. Not far from there is also the terminal stop of tram line 6, where the former excursion restaurant "Reichels Neue Welt" was once located. Additionally, near the tram terminal, there was the stop "Chemnitz-Zwönitzbrücke" on the railway line Zwönitz–Chemnitz Süd. Since 2002, the trains of the City-Bahn Chemnitz have been operating on the tram tracks up to the turning point Altchemnitz and from there over a short newly constructed connection piece to the railway line Zwönitz–Chemnitz Süd and onwards to Stollberg/Erzgeb. Since then, the section Zwönitzbrücke–Chemnitz Süd of the aforementioned railway line is only used for freight traffic and for transfer trips, but no longer in regular local passenger transport.
