The heating plant Altchemnitz is a natural gas peak heating plant located in Chemnitz-Altchemnitz. It produces district heating with two hot water generators, each with a thermal output of 116 megawatts. The heating plant was built with three hot water generators and initially operated on heating oil. From 1981 onward, it operated completely on dual fuel with crude oil or natural gas and a total capacity of 348 megawatts. As part of the modernization, the oil operation was discontinued, and one hot water generator was dismantled. For this reason, the total capacity dropped to 232 megawatts. The heating plant does not generate electricity; it is solely used for heat supply and is operational on particularly cold winter days or during prolonged cold spells. The chimney measures 225 meters. The heating plant supplies the district heating network of Chemnitz from the south and is operated by eins energie in sachsen.
