Information board about the Scholsseiche (castle oak). This impressive oak is said to have been planted here in 890 by Hilteborg, the consort of Count Uffo. Every year at Easter, the village youth gathered here to celebrate. The oak was credited with miraculous powers, such as curing some diseases and helping to find a loved one.
This oak was felled by a thunderstorm in 1937. Legend has it that no tree or shrub could ever grow in this place after that. Since 1993, the village community has made several attempts to plant a new oak tree here, but despite all efforts, these attempts have all failed...
