The Johanneskirche is a neo-Gothic Protestant church in the Heidelberg district of Neuenheim, built between 1899 and 1902.
After the incorporation of Neuenheim into Heidelberg in 1891, the new district grew rapidly. The old Johanneskirche at Neuenheimer Marktplatz, Protestant since the Reformation, soon became too small. An expansion was planned in 1895, but ultimately it was decided to construct a larger church outside the old village center. In 1900, the foundation stone for the new church was laid at a bend in Handschuhsheimer Landstraße, taking its name from the old church, but now referring to the Evangelist John, rather than John the Baptist. The new Johanneskirche was consecrated on May 11, 1902, in the presence of Grand Duke Friedrich I.
