Village Church Stahnsdorf

The Protestant village church of Stahnsdorf is a sacred building from the first half of the 13th century in Stahnsdorf in the district of Potsdam-Mittelmark.
The first documented mention of the village dates back to 1264. By that time, the church already existed, and it is generally assumed that construction began shortly after 1200 and was completed by the end of the first third of the 13th century. Due to the lack of dendrochronological studies on the preserved original framework of the choir, the dating relies on stylistic comparisons. It can be established that the construction, consisting of the church nave, the choir square, and the semicircular apse, was built in one go using extremely carefully hewn field stones. Thus, it ranks among the oldest churches in the Mittelmark, comparable to the village church of Marienfelde and the village church of Waltersdorf.
