Great Wentowsee

The Großer Wentowsee is a natural lake in the north of the state of Brandenburg. It belongs partly to the town of Gransee and partly to the town of Fürstenberg/Havel. On its banks lie the villages of Dannenwalde, Ringsleben, Tornow, Marienthal, Zabelsdorf and Wentow.
The Großer Wentowsee is a calcareous, unstratified lake in the northeast of the natural area of the Granseer Platte. Its water level is at an altitude of 47.5 m above sea level. It has an area of 279 ha and a maximum depth of 4 m. The effective width is 3650 m, the effective length is 960 m. The islands of Der Raatz and Schönwerder as well as another island are located in the lake. The Großer Wentowsee has a catchment area of 20,270 ha. In the west, the tributary is from the Kleiner Wentowsee, which connects with the Polzow Canal. In addition, several ditches flow into the Great Wentowsee, including the Old Siebgraben and the Grenzbek from the north. In the east, the Tornowfließ forms the natural outflow to the Havel. In addition, the Wentow Canal with the Marienthal lock connects the Great Wentowsee with the Havel. An indirect outflow to the Havel is via the Piepergraben in a southeasterly direction.
