The Löcknitz is a 33 km long right tributary of the Spree in the state of Brandenburg. The upper reaches of the Löcknitz are located in the district of Märkisch-Oderland, west of Müncheberg. Its catchment area is 378 km², the average flow is 1.7 m³/s.
The Löcknitz has its source in a small pond at the Bienenwerder forest hut between Müncheberg and its district of Hoppegarten. The upper course of the Maxsee is also known as the Hoppegartener Fließ. After the mouth of the Maxsee, the Stöbberbach flows to the right after 1.5 km, half a kilometre further in Kienbaum the Lichtenower Mühlenfließ, which previously flowed through four lakes, most recently the Liebenberger See. From Kienbaum to the Fangschleuse district in Grünheide, the Löcknitz flows freely and has preserved the natural riverbank structures for more than 20 kilometres, especially in the Löcknitztal nature reserve. In Fangschleuse, the Löcknitz joins the tributary Neue Löcknitz. From there, today's route consists of the Löcknitz Canal, which was built at the beginning of the 20th century between Werlsee and Flakensee. The old riverbed is preserved only in its remains. The Rüdersdorfer Mühlenfließ also flows into the Flakensee. The lowest part of the Löcknitz, from the Flakensee to the mouth of the Dämeritzsee of the Spree, is also called the Flakenfließ. Via the Spree, the Havel and the Elbe, the water from the Löcknitz reaches the North Sea.
