Köpenick Hospital

The Köpenick Hospital is a clinic opened in 1914, which was built to provide health care to the inhabitants of the former district of Teltow. Through the merger of the surrounding municipalities and Old Berlin to form the municipality of Greater Berlin in 1920, the district hospital became part of the newly formed administrative district of Berlin-Köpenick. After several conversions and extensions, medical and administrative reassignments, it has been part of the DRK Kliniken Berlin network under the sponsorship of the DRK Nurses' Association Berlin since 1992. The clinic in the Berlin district of Köpenick, Salvador-Allende-Straße 2–8, serves both as standard medical care and as an emergency facility. It is also an academic teaching hospital of the Berlin Charité.
The city of Cöpenick belonged to the district of Teltow until 1920 and initially did not have its own hospital. Established general practitioners took care of medical care. Around 1910, the district administrator had decided to build a sanatorium on the outskirts of the city on the Amtsfeld near the Kämmereiheide. The building plans were drawn up by the architect Hugo Kinzer, who – as was customary at the time – also supervised the construction. The foundation stone was laid in 1912, and the facility was opened on 3 January 1914 as the "8th Hospital of the Teltow District" by the district administrator of the district, Adolf von Achenbach. To connect the hospital, the city of Cöpenick had a new road built, which was named Achenbachstraße "on the occasion of the construction of the Cöpenick district hospital".
