Hohenstein Castle

Hohenstein Castle is a castle built in the Renaissance style in Hohenstein in the Ludwigsburg district of Baden-Württemberg.

As early as 1250, a castle is mentioned at the site of the present-day castle. The castle owners were the Lords of Howenstein. After their line died out in 1443, Württemberg took over the village and the castle and granted it as a feudal estate to the Lords of Sachsenheim. The latter sold the castle in equal parts to the Lords of Talheim and the Lords of Lierheim. The Lords of Talheim later ceded their half to the Lords of Winnenden. By around 1550, the castle was said to have fallen into disrepair. In 1555, the ruins returned to Württemberg, which distributed them to the Lords of Plieningen and the chief magistrate of Brackenheim. In 1593, the Plieningen family had the castle demolished and instead built a palace on the same site.
