Hansa Luftbild is an internationally oriented geo-information service provider for aerial imagery, sensor flights, software development, analysis, and consulting related to spatial planning. The company's headquarters is in Münster.
The company originally dates back to the aerial image department of the Deutsche Luft-Reederei, founded in 1919, which was managed by AEG engineer Alexander Meißner. Two years later, Wilhelm Gessner took over the management of the department. When the DLR merged with Deutsche Aero Lloyd in 1923, the aerial image department became an independent entity under the name Aero Lloyd Luftbild GmbH in Berlin on December 31, 1923. In 1926, Deutsche Aero Lloyd and Junkers Luftverkehr AG, which also had an aerial image department with the Junkers Luftbild-Zentrale, merged under state pressure to form Deutsche Luft Hansa AG. In deciding which of the two departments to retain as a subsidiary, the decision was ultimately made to keep Aero Lloyd Luftbild GmbH, which was renamed Hansa Luftbild GmbH on June 29, 1926.
