The King Ludwig Monument in Kempten consists of a small temple-like structure with a bronze bust of King Ludwig II of Bavaria. The monument, unveiled in 1933, is located on the right side above the Iller near the King Ludwig Bridge in a small green space.
The King Ludwig Monument was the first monument for the king unveiled after the end of the Bavarian monarchy in 1933. The planning dates back to 1908 when the "Association for Kempten and the Allgäu for the Erection of a Monument for the Late King Ludwig II of Bavaria e.V." was founded. The First World War and severe inflation delayed the realization of the memorial.
