The Eichendorff Gymnasium Ettlingen is a secondary school in Ettlingen. It is named after the poet and writer Joseph von Eichendorff and is the oldest of the two secondary schools in Ettlingen.
In 1808, the territorial lord Carl Friedrich approved the construction of a Latin school in Ettlingen. With the growing industrialization, the population's desire for a higher citizen school increased. In October 1842, the citizen committee agreed, and the Latin school was transformed into a citizen school. In 1896, the Real school curriculum was introduced in the four-class school, and for the first time, girls were allowed to attend. In 1901, it became a Real school and included seven grade levels. In 1909, it was renamed Realprogymnasium with Real school. In 1922, the school moved and found its place in the former Rheinland barracks in Ettlingen. After the Unterprima and Oberprima were introduced in 1926 and 1927 at the request of students, the school received the title Realgymnasium in the same year. Until 1931, the Real school was gradually separated. From 1933 onwards, it was called Hindenburg Realgymnasium by the National Socialists.
