Trier-Mitte/Gartenfeld is one of the 19 districts of the city of Trier in Rhineland-Palatinate. It consists of the city districts of Altstadt and Gartenfeld. The population in the Altstadt area is around 9000 and in the Gartenfeld area around 3000.
Altstadt refers to the historic core of the city of Trier, which is surrounded by the present-day Aleenring, along the original medieval city wall. In the area located east of the city walls, there were for a long time various fruit and wine-growing gardens. This garden field was not developed as a residential area until the second half of the 19th century. Trier-Gartenfeld is colloquially sometimes referred to as Trier-East. The current boundary between the city districts of Altstadt and Gartenfeld runs along the railway line between the Imperial Baths and Trier Central Station. The current district Trier-Mitte/Gartenfeld borders in the west to the district Trier-West/Pallien, in the north to Trier-Nord, in the northeast to Trier-Kürenz, in the southeast to Trier-Olewig, and in the south to Trier-Heiligkreuz and Trier-Süd.
