The Machern Monastery is a former monastery of the Cistercian nuns located opposite the village of Zeltingen-Rachtig on the left bank of the Moselle River. The property is situated in the area of Bernkastel-Kues, about five kilometers northwest of the town.
Founded in the 13th century, it existed until its secularization by the French government in 1802. Subsequently used for agricultural purposes, its baroque buildings gradually fell into disrepair until renovations and restoration work began in 1970. Today, the monastery complex is a popular destination along the Middle Moselle, featuring a monastery brewery and brewhouse, a wine cellar, and a museum.
