Herrnhut Station

The Herrnhut station is a railway facility on the Zittau–Löbau railway line and the former narrow-gauge railway Herrnhut–Bernstadt, located in the municipal area of the town of Herrnhut in Saxony. It was established with the Zittau–Löbau railway line. At its greatest extent before 1945, the station was a track change station and had eight standard gauge tracks and four narrow gauge tracks. Since the cessation of operations on January 2, 2002, the station has been without train traffic.
At the opening of the Zittau–Löbau railway line, there was a small reception building with a station restaurant, a head and side loading ramp, as well as two crossing tracks at the Herrnhut station. At that time, the reception building could not yet be described as representative. Only in 1866 did the station receive the two and a half-story reception building with a one and a half-story annex. The previous reception building was repurposed by the railway company into an official residence. A major expansion took place at the station in 1893 with the opening of the narrow-gauge railway Herrnhut–Bernstadt. At that time, the station had six standard gauge tracks south of the reception building and three narrow gauge tracks north of the reception building. Unlike other narrow-gauge railways, the station never received a track changing facility. All freight had to be transferred in the transshipment hall located on the Löbauer side at track 1.
