The water reservoir Göttelborn is located on the Göttelborner Höhe at an altitude of 444 meters between the villages of Göttelborn and Holz, directly on the road L128.
The storage capacity amounts to 1,250 m³, distributed over a support ground tank made of riveted sheet metal with a capacity of 700 m³ and a reinforced concrete tank with a capacity of 550 m³. The building has a height of 15 m and is listed as a historical monument. The reservoir represents the only industrial monument in Saarland that has been used continuously for the same purpose since its construction. To date, the only major technical change, aside from the renewal of the pipelines, has been the installation of an air dehumidification system, which was installed during the renovation work in 2014/2015. Today, the reservoir serves the supply of the communities Göttelborn, Holz, Wahlschied, Kutzhof, and Merchweiler, and acts as a reserve for the neighboring Weiher power plant. The water comes from the Spiesermühltal waterworks and the Würzbachtal waterworks. With its location at 444 m above sea level, it is the highest water reservoir in the interconnected network. A special feature is the architecture of the reservoir. The tower, the windows reminiscent of loopholes, the side buildings that surround the two tanks, and the polygonal floor plan create the impression that it is a small castle or a palace. The term "Château d'Eau," used in French for water towers, is the most fitting designation.
