The Michelstadt City Museum in Michelstadt is housed in a warehouse building built in 1517 in the former winery of Michelstadt Castle. The museum, which was redesigned in 2016, provides information about the city's history, among other things using the example of well-known personalities.
The former Odenwald and Toy Museum has been in existence since 1910 and presents regional and city history. The exhibits began in prehistory and early history, through Roman times, Christianization and the development of the Mark Michelstadt into the County of Erbach. On display were reproductions of rooms from different eras and living environments in the region. As well as the presentation of regional historical working environments, the development of handicrafts in Michelstadt, pottery and pewter dishes, hunting rifles and artistic exhibits, for example amber works by the Odenwald artist Jan Holschuh. A separate room was dedicated to the artist Fritz Kredel, with a collection of about 500 specimens. The Toy Museum offered a collection of historical toys. These include dolls and their accessories from about 1880 to 1940, miniatures, wooden toys and a wide range of paper toys. Still toys from abroad. In the attic there is a model railway layout in H0 gauge, in which the Odenwald Railway has been faithfully reproduced.
