Saffenberg was a lordship within the Holy Roman Empire that was not classified within a Kreis.
Saffenburg was built in the eleventh century by the counts Adolf of Nörvenich and Adalbert of Saffenburg and is first mentioned in 1081. In 1704, the castle was demolished. Since 2004, the dilapidated wall remnants have been renovated.
