The forest cemetery between Wanheimerort and Buchholz is with 67 hectares the largest cemetery in Duisburg. It was established in the early 1920s according to the plans of the Duisburg architect Herman Bräuhäuser. As a municipal cemetery of the Duisburg Economic Enterprises, it is designed as a burial site for various nations and faiths. In addition to the common row and choice graves, the cemetery also has burial fields for the Jewish, Greek Orthodox, and Muslim communities. In addition, there are numerous memorial sites for urns, which can be buried either in the traditional way or as maintenance-free burial sites under trees, in the grass, or since 2011 in the Memoriam Garden.
