Münsterhof Horstmar

The Münsterhof is a knight's courtyard in Horstmar in the Steinfurt district, North Rhine-Westphalia. It has been under monument protection since November 7, 1989.

Like all knight's courtyards, it is located at the edge of the city moat. This connects it to the city wall to the south. The remains can still be seen in the garden. The two-story two-winged building dates back to the Renaissance and is enlivened by ten stone cross windows. Adjacent to the building is a large garden, separated from the street by a wall. As part of the annual rose market, it is also open to the public.

The name derives from its first owners, the Lords of Münster, who are documented there as early as 1347. In 1550, a Lord of Canstein married into the Münsterhof. In 1576 it became Haus Neuhoff. Following a testamentary provision, Bernhard Engelbert Christian von Beverförde-Werries, the father of Friedrich Christian von Beverförde zu Werries, acquired the estate in 1699. He adopted his nephew Friedrich Clemens von Elverfeldt zu Dahlhausen and Steinhausen and made him the heir. Thus, the property came into the possession of the Elverfeldt family, known as von Beverfoerde zu Werries. The Münsterhof was thoroughly renovated a few years ago and now serves in the lower area as a training center and meeting room for the Volksbank. The upper floors have been converted into privately rented apartments.
