NSG Auwald Stapelskotten

Between the old Pleistermühle and the Stapelskotten outdoor pool on Wolbecker Straße, perhaps the most beautiful section of the cycle path runs along the Werse. Always close to the water, the path winds through uniquely beautiful alluvial forests. A special experience is a bike tour in spring, when a colourful carpet of flowers covers the forest floor.
Alluvial forests occur along streams and rivers and are characterized by flooding and high groundwater levels. In a small-scale mosaic, they offer different site conditions for plants and animals. That is why they are among the most species-rich habitats in Europe. However, because river floodplains have always been a preferred settlement area for centuries, near-natural alluvial forests in Central Europe have almost completely disappeared.
