Deutschbaselitz, Upper Sorbian, is a place in Upper Lusatia that used to be an independent municipality and has been a district of the large district town of Kamenz in the Bautzen district since January 1, 1999. To this day, Deutschbaselitz has retained its village character and is located in the Upper Lusatian heath and pond landscape. The district is located three kilometers northeast of the city center of Kamenz on the S 97 and is part of the official Sorbian settlement area in Saxony.
Deutschbaselitz is known in Upper Lusatia for numerous hiking trails, which are partly part of the Krabat Trail. In addition, many small lakes are located in the immediate vicinity of Deutschbaselitz, which surround the place to the south and east. Besides Hofeteich, the Große Sandteiche, and Istrichteich, the most well-known body of water is the 113-hectare Deutschbaselitzer Großteich with its two bird islands as part of the local nature reserve.
