The Soviet Honor Cemetery is a memorial site on B 96 in Baruth/Mark in the Teltow-Fläming district of Brandenburg. It commemorates the soldiers of the 3rd and 4th Tank Armies of the 1st Ukrainian Front of the Red Army who fell under Marshal Konev during the battle for the Halbe pocket and is considered one of the largest and most significant Soviet war cemeteries in Brandenburg.
The cemetery, 72 meters wide and 89 meters long, is located on a small hill that can be accessed from B 96 via three steps. A ramp leads to the main entrance on the left and right of the entrance. Two bollards on each side prevent vehicles from being parked directly in front of the entrance. On two massive natural stone pedestals, there is a T-34 tank on each side of the entrance. Below the tanks are two plates inscribed in Russian and German: “Eternal glory to the heroes who fell for the freedom and independence of the Soviet homeland” and “Progressive humanity will always honor the memory of the fighters of the Soviet people who saved the world from fascism with their lives.” Visitors enter the site through a metal fence, where a Hall of Honor stands at the central axis, featuring a 20-meter-high obelisk crowned by a red star. On either side of the front of the Hall of Honor are reliefs depicting scenes from World War II. The left relief shows urban combat while the right depicts the battle during the Red Army’s crossing of the Teltow Canal.
