The parish village of Ramspau belongs to the market town of Regenstauf and is located about four kilometers north of the municipal center on the right bank of the Regen River.
The village, located on the western bank of the Regen River, is first mentioned under the name "Randesbure" in a document from King Henry II in the year 1011, who stayed here. At that time, it belonged to the lords of the castle who resided in the castle complex that was destroyed by the Swedes during the Thirty Years' War. Until the 14th century, Ramspau can be documented as a seat of power and belonged to the Duchy of Neuburg. Johann Sigismund von Reisach acquired the estate and the remnants of the castle in 1694 and used the stones of the castle as building material for the prominently visible palace characterized by its four distinctive onion domes.
