The village in the Altmühltal Nature Park is located in the midst of a clearing island on the Jura high plateau northwest of Kipfenberg at about 530 meters above sea level.
From the Jura high road Eichstätt–Kinding, you turn off at Pfahldorf to reach the village three kilometers away, which can be accessed via the state road 2336. This road continues over Altdorf and Emsing to Greding. In Hirnstetten, a road branches off to the Pollenfeld municipal district of Götzelshard. Other roads lead from the village to the Kinding municipal districts of Furthof with the Furth cave on the slope of the Anlautertal valley and Schafhausen in the Anlautertal.
