Preten is a village and a former municipality in the municipality of Amt Neuhaus, in Lower Saxony, Germany.
Preten is located between the Krainke and Sude rivers. The Krainke flows northwest of Preten into the south. The Sude flows into the Elbe near Boizenburg/Gothmann. One and a half kilometres north and east of the village runs the state border with Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
