The Jungborn spa was a spa founded in 1896 by Adolf Just in the valley of the Ecker near Stapelburg. It is considered Germany's first and largest naturopathic institution. The facility was used for cures until the Second World War and was then used for similar purposes. Due to its proximity to the inner-German border, the facility, which was located on the territory of the GDR, was completely removed in the early 1960s for reasons of border security.
The Jungborn spa was located at an altitude of 250 metres above sea level on the northeast side and thus with less precipitation on the leeward side of the Harz Mountains. The terrain in the valley was protected from the wind by tree growth. It was initially around 10 hectares in size and later expanded to 40 hectares. Numerous buildings were located on it, including air huts, light air houses, dining halls as well as administration and supply buildings. The approximately 100 light-air houses built of wood served as accommodation for spa guests. They had one or two rooms and had large windows and air flaps.
