Stöckheim was a historic town that currently belongs to the German city of Brunswick to which it was incorporated in 1974. It is located on the banks of the Oker River.

Stöckheim's location, between the cities of Brunswick and Wolfenbüttel, led it during the Middle Ages, to continuous sieges and looting. Henry the Lion led his troops against Gunzelin von Wolfenbüttel. In 1432, Henry's descendants, the brothers William the Victorious and Henry the Pacific, who fought each other over inheritance, eventually burning Stöckheim.
