Heath and poor grassland in the South Heath

The heath and dry grasslands in the Südheide are a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony municipalities of Faßberg and Südheide in the district of Celle.

The nature reserve designated as NSG LÜ 334 covers approximately 753 hectares. The nature reserve, consisting of 15 sub-areas, is mostly designated as a FFH area "Heaths and Dry Grasslands in the Südheide". Additionally, the sub-area "Schmarbecker Heide" of the FFH area "Ilmenau with side streams" is part of the nature reserve. The previous nature reserve "Moor bei Gerdehaus", the largest part of the nature reserve "Heathlands of the middle Lüß plateau", and parts of the landscape protection area "Südheide in the district of Celle" have merged into the nature reserve "Heaths and Dry Grasslands in the Südheide". The area has been under nature protection since July 30, 2019. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Celle.
