The village of Fohlenplacken is located about 1.5 km northwest of the centre of Neuhaus' an der Holzminde at an altitude of 295 to 340 m. The district road 50 between Neuhaus and Holzminden runs through the village.
The district in which the Corvey monastery once had herding rights was called Fülleplacke in modern times. The Amt of Allersheim had foals herded on the pastures on this small piece of land. In the 18th century, the first building to be built was a mill; this was followed by further settlements. For a time, the glaze mill was a supplier to the Fürstenberg porcelain manufactory. In 2017, the Waldglashütte on the Holzminde, which is considered the second oldest of its kind in Europe, was archaeologically examined north of the village.
