Ostenfelde is a former farming community and municipality in the district of Osnabrück. Since 1972, it has been part of the town of Bad Iburg.
A Schultenhof existed in Ostenfelde presumably in the first half of the 9th century. Bishop Benno II of Osnabrück acquired a farm in Ostenfelde for the Iburg monastery from the free woman Eila; Ostenfelde paid tithes to the monastery. Norbert of Iburg, the biographer of Benno II, purchased three farms in Ostenfelde. The purchase is also mentioned in the monastery annals of the Iburg abbot Maurus Rost. In the land register of the Herford monastery from the 12th century, Ostenfelde is referred to as the villikation Hastenfelde. In 1354, Bishop Johann II. Hoet and the Iburg abbot Albert exchanged feudal properties in Ostenfelde. Ostenfelde, due to its location on the border of the influence area of the Counts of Tecklenburg and the Osnabrück prince-bishops, was often the subject of conflicts. In 1609, Ostenfelde was assigned to the parish of Glane and thus to the Diocese of Osnabrück as part of a treaty between the County of Tecklenburg and the Bishopric of Osnabrück. From 1802, Ostenfelde belonged to the Kingdom of Prussia and in 1807 to the Kingdom of Westphalia. From 1811 it was under French rule until it was transferred to the Kingdom of Hanover in 1815. In 1885, Burg Scheventorf and the area of the former Schleppenburg were added to Ostenfelde. From 1867 to 1932, Ostenfelde was part of the Iburg district, which was dissolved and incorporated into the district of Osnabrück. In 1937, Ostenfelde lost the area around the train station to the town of Iburg. Since the end of World War II, Ostenfelde has belonged to the state of Lower Saxony, founded in 1946. In 1970, Ostenfelde, Glane-Visbeck, and Sentrup formed the municipality of Glane. This was incorporated into the town of Bad Iburg on July 1, 1972.
