Hullern is a district of the town of Haltern am See and lies seven kilometres east on the B 58 in the southern Münsterland. To the north is the Hullern reservoir, which is located in front of the Haltern reservoir and connected to it by the Stever.
The first documented mention of the place was not as "Horlon", but as "In Hulluron" for the localization of a farm site of the abbey of Werden an der Ruhr. The income register, which is kept in the main state archive in Düsseldorf and is probably based on foundations, was written in the 10th or 11th century. The parish church of St. Andrew, built in 1892, is home to both Catholic and Protestant congregations. In 1614 there was no school in Hullern. Around 1680 there was already a teacher in Hullern, the sexton Arnoldus Thier. The current primary school was inaugurated on 11 December 1958. It was followed in 1973 by a kindergarten, to which an extension was added in 2000.
