The village was first mentioned around 1134, and around 1300 a chapel stood there. The Catholic church from the sixteenth century was not rebuilt after World War II. In 1948, a hall church was built as an emergency church, which was enlarged in 1968 and received a separate tower in 1978. Heavy fighting occurred around Hassum during Operation Veritable. The Boxtel - Wesel railway ran through Hassum, and the village had a station, Bahnhof Hassum, which is now a residential house.
