In Süsterseel, you are in the valley of the Rodebach, which was once the lifeline in Selfkant. The Rodebach is 29 kilometers long and flows over the Geleenbeek into the Maas.
After the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the Rodebach was defined over long distances as a natural border between the Prussian Rhine Province and the Netherlands.
The 700-hectare cross-border nature and landscape park Rodebach/Roode Beek is being developed as a destination for soft tourism.
