The discovery of the Roman villa in Veldenz is curious: The beautiful Catholic rectory from 1820 was supposed to be fitted with a basement during restoration. The excavations surprisingly uncovered a Roman bathing facility with an associated heating system! Clearly, this was once the site of an ancient estate. Thus, the house became richer not only by a basement but also by an attraction, and it has since carried the name "Villa Romana". If its former residents had known earlier what wellness oasis slumbered beneath their feet, they might have taken up the spade back then. / Today, in the "Villa Romana", alongside the Roman heating system, visitors can explore the small museum about local history, an extensive coin collection, and changing art exhibitions. / A stop on the Roads of the Romans.
